Grassland Reserve Program

Applications for the Grassland Reserve Program are accepted on a continuous sign-up basis. To be considered for fiscal year 2011 funding applications must be received in the local NRCS or FSA Field Office no later than close of business on January 31, 2011. All applications received after this date will be held for the second ranking period with a cutoff date of June 30, 2011.

The Grassland Reserve Program is a voluntary program to assist landowners and agricultural operators in restoring and protecting eligible grassland, land that contains forbs, or shrublands for which grazing is the predominant use through rental contracts and easements.

The purpose of the Grassland Reserve Program (GRP) is to assist landowners and operators to protect grazing uses and related conservation values by conserving and restoring grassland resources on eligible private lands through rental contracts, easements, and restoration agreements. GRP emphasizes:

  1. Supporting grazing operations;
  2. Maintaining and improving plant and animal biodiversity; and
  3. Protecting grasslands and shrublands from the threat of conversion to uses other than grazing.
