The Soil and Water Conservation Society (Pacific Islands Area Chapter) is the largest in the
Pacific. Members include a diverse group of individuals working or interested in soil and water
conservation, and broader issues of conservation of natural resources.

SWCS is an
international, non-profit scientific and educational organization dedicated to promoting
conservation of soil and water resources. Founded in 1945, SWCS has a world-wide membership
of 11,000 in 90 countries. Members include a diverse group of individuals working or
interested in soil and water conservation, and broader issues of conservation of natural resources.
The international headquarters of SWCS is in Ankeny, Iowa, USA. Activities at a local level are
organized by chapters of the Society.

Chapter Establishment and Objectives
The Pacific Islands Area Chapter is the largest in Pacific. It was
established in 1981 and has 30 members who are working or interested in
agricultural and environmental sciences, and education. The objectives of
the Pacific Islands Area Chapter are to:
- Develop and advance the science and art of good land stewardship.
- Promote public awareness and education about the conservation of soil, water and related natural resources.
- Join with other resource professionals for self development, education, and fun.

Pacific Islands Area Chapter Activities
The Chapter is involved in a wide range of activities including:
- Development of educational resources for children.
- Supply of speaker resource kits.
- Sponsorship of public seminars and workshops.
- Unbiased reviews of reports, policy papers and other documents on soil and water conservation.
